Which amp has the closest sound to a Diezel VH4?
Post by Kai on Jun 17th, 2017, 10:17pm

I played a Diezel VH4 at a guitar store a while ago and I was blown away. It's become my dream amp... but what wasn't amazing was the $4,400 price tag. So I did some looking for amps under $2000 that sound like a VH4. I've heard that the Bogner Shiva and the Soldano Avenger (basically an SLO-100 but without cleans and much less expensive) can get close to a Diezel VH4. Out of those amps, which is the closest? I'm guessing the Soldano Avenger would cut nicer in the mix, but the mid scooped (not really scooped, but not as much mids as the Soldano) sound of the Bogner would be closer to a Diezel VH4. Or I might be completely wrong.

If these amps both sound nothing like a Diezel VH4, what amps do?

Interesting, as Warren DeMartini seems to alternate on occasion between his SLO and Diezel. There must be enough similarity there to still play the Ratt tunes. I heard reviews from people who say that they like it best in Ratt shows when he uses the SLO. I don't believe that any other soldano is "basically" an SLO lead channel in a box, though. I had a Hot Rod 50+,,,it was not my SLO. I'd be interested in hearing a side by side between an SLO and Diezel. I'll never need another amp besides my SLO, though. I'm just still so damn content and giddy when I plug in, and I bought it in 2005!

VHT/Fryette Pittbull is the closest to a Diezel VH4. As a matter of fact, I've played both, own a Pittbull 100CL, and I preferred the Pittbull over the Diezel.

I'm a Diezel dealer and have both a Herbert and VH4 with a Diezel 4x12" loaded with Celestion K100's in my shop. Have all the Diezel pedals etc. as well.

I'm also the largest Soldano dealer on the planet, and I can tell you that the VH4 is it's own cat. It doesn't sound anything like any of Mike's amps perse'. Plus it has 4 channel inserts, 1 really good effects loop, 4 channels, and a host of other things I'm sure you are aware of for the crowd that's into Wet > Dry > Wet setups. Diezels do this better than any amp I've ever seen.

Diamond Nitrox is very close to what the VH4 does, but it's way less expensive and built in Houston. I'm part owner of that company too. Serious gain.

Diezel has a VH2 coming out this year. Cheaper but may be what you are looking for.

Good luck.
