SLO Tubes
Post by JLH59 on Nov 3rd, 2016, 07:02am

I have had my SLO for 15 years now, use it weekly, last night the amp had some volume and tone loss, very noticeable.
Never been re tubed, I am thinking it's time.
What are all of you SLO guy's using, installing, re tubing with.
I am going to do pre amp and power.
Also, what bias are you all setting at?

Save money and trouble. I've run them all in tests. Stock Sovtek 5881's have a plate voltage of 350 with a 100% overload guaranteed to 700 plate volts. Bias at 30 and rock.

Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Pro players leave their amps stock. JJ's are only good to 480 plate volts. SLO idles at 505 plate volts. BAM, you will smoke a quad quickly. Winged C's are ok, but run really hot. TAD's do in fact run good I will say, but I still prefer bone stock.

TungSol 7581A's , and they can handle the voltages with ease .
They are a 35w variant of a 6L6 and they will wake up the Soldano power section like you have never heard before when you hit the sweet spot .

7581 A's for my HR 50 and HR 25 ?
what's your thought on installing these in the lower wattage Soldano's ?
I also have a HR25 and an HR50 plus.
Always looking to tweak, ugh

I have some NOS Philips 6L6GC's in mine. Those are what it was designed around, so I stick with them.
