xx Soldano HR50+ with Marshall/Mesa 4X12
« Thread started on: Nov 30th, 2016, 1:20pm »

Greetings;

I've had a used HR50+ for a few months now and was just about to trade it for something else because the tone seemed to be seriously lacking most recently and not what I remembered like when I first got it. Turned out my ancient Carvin 4X12 had some blown speakers and the amp was biased extremely cold. I learned to make a bias adjustment and a friend lent me his Mesa Roadster cabinet. Long story short, I'm in love with the sound of this amp like never before. In fact, I can't imagine a better lead sound!

The second part of this is I now need to purchase a new 4X12. I hope to use this cabinet for the next 15+ years. I like the sound of the Roadster cab I have now, but I believe it's probably most similar to the oversize. I am contemplating either the Mesa traditional 4X12 or the Marshall 1960AV. Any input on what differences may amplify with the HR50+?

Also - I may consider the Soldano cabinet although it's approximately $600 CDN more and I don't think it is necessarily that much better of a cabinet if at all. I do however, like the idea of a matching head and cabinet but I think Mesa/Marshall cabinets are fairly industry standard cabinets and could often be used with other makes of amps.

Why not buy the same speakers that the Roadster has in it to replace the blown speakers in your 4x12?

If you want to just buy new instead I'm not gonna stop you thought!

After scouring the forums and the internet I've decided to go with a matching Soldano 4X12 straight cabinet with the Eminence speakers. I was contemplating the boa snakeskin but when it came down to it, I'll stick with the black.

The roadster cabinet has V30s which I liked the sound of but I'm going to put my faith that Soldano knows how to build a cabinet and select a speaker designed to work with their amps. Can't wait to try it out. Might be a few weeks away.

You won't be sorry. Eminence V12 Legends just work. V30's can be too buzy. Been there done that and I seem to have this discussion almost weekly with customers asking same question.

Got the Soldano straight 4X12 end of January and feel it's starting to come into it's own sound-wise now that it's been pushing air for a while now.

For the record, I liked the sound of it as soon as I plugged in. I think the old Carvin cabinet I was using had some Eminence speakers made for Carvin in it and I always liked the sound of them vs V30s so maybe I was a bit biased from the beginning.

I'm a fan of the legends in the Soldano. I'm glad I didn't decide take any negative reviews of the Soldano cabinet to heart and pass on it.

I still think it sounds great with the V30s in the roadster cabinet, but if I'm honest I prefer the Soldano cabinet.

The size is really manageable to move up and down stairs and fits in the car quite nicely. Love Soldano gear!
