I've seen this amp for sale and I'm contemplating on purchasing it; while the amp oozes in coolness I'm wrestling with whether or not its worth the asking price. Asking price is total would be almost $5800

The deal will be closed Monday morning! When I first approached the wife about it the other day she was not too thrilled but told me to go ahead and buy it but if I do she gets a new kitchen! I figured that the kitchen needs remodeled and it was on our list of things to do anyway!

Awesome!!! I'm glad to see a forum member grab it up. And as far as the kitchen, nice trade off!

P.S. Make sure to post pics once you get it and don't forget the sound report!! grin

Tone Report! The amp arrived last Wednesday in time to use for band practice that evening! To my ears and the guys in the band there is definitely something noticeably different about #6 than my 2002 SLO. #6 has a fuller, punchier and more rounded tone to it... which could be due to the KT66 Power Tubes, however I was not pushing the amp to the point of Power Tube breakup so how huge of a difference the KT66's make may be questionable. The main thing the guys commented on is the amp is much quieter than my other SLO with no piercing highs and very low hiss with the gain turned up... every note was round & thick! #6 is quieter than the 2002, which has 5881 Power Tubes.

I am not going to say it sounds better than my 2002 because they both sound great plus sound/tone is a matter of personal taste but to my ears there is definitely a noticeable difference between #6 and my 2002!

Please note ... my 2002 SLO has the Depth, Haynes and Mid Cut mods but when comparing the amps the Depth was set at zero with the Haynes and Mid Cut switches disengaged.

Wow! You got it! That's awesome. Clips? A/B, as in '87/'02?

87-006 wasn't built with a loop or a clean side of the Normal channel. I don't know whether Andy Brawer or George sent it back to Mike to add the loop or not. No real changes other than a PCB that Mike prefers on the post 100 built amps, but by all means CONGRATS !!!!! Great find.

Another customer of mine has 87-008 unless Johnny Jellybean got it back for the 3rd time.... I hope so, he used it with April Wine and Celine Dion.

Neither Andy nor George had a loop installed, it's still as it was back in 1987! Unfortunately, #6 is going back to Mike soon for a repair & tune up... the bias cap blew on me a couple weeks back. When the bias cap blew I pulled the chassis out and discovered that the difference in tone I was hearing was due to the bright cap being clipped ala Warren Haynes Mod. Once I engaged the Haynes Mod on my 2002 the amps sound pretty darned close!

I think Johnny Jellybean has 87-008 back in his arsenal; he mentioned it to me when I purchased #6 from him!

Yeah, I found it for him via a customer of mine at BCM and then hooked them both up. He better keep it this time. third time's a charm.
