xx can't play other amps anymore!
« Thread started on: Jun 26th, 2014, 8:22pm »

After years of playing my SLO, I just have a hard time playing other tube amps. I still have a Marshall JCM601 combo I like to keep around for smaller things,,,,,which I used to love. It's literally the last tube amp I have besides my SLO that hasn't been sold off, and today, when I was playing the marshall, I just couldn't get into how it just wasn't "clear" enough. Like there was some extra noise or fizz in the tone to cloud my picking technique somehow. The SLO sure has honed my alternate picking technique, to the point where all of these other amps just sound "noisy." To much background fizz or fuzz or noise or something that I can't put my finger on, but it makes me sound less accurate, and I can't stand it. I really want a combo amp to have around for some smaller jamming stuff, but I gotta say, the SLO has kinda ruined me for getting into other amps. Now I know what they mean when they say that some amps kind of "hide "your technique flaws. But I don't like it at all anymore.

I know what you mean!

I always use the word "vivid" to describe the whole SLO clarity, accuracy thing.

I was in the forum and I noticed this post and you are sooooo right!!
Soldanos are like Black men.....Once you go Soldano you never go back.

I must say that I was disappointed with the sound when I first bought my Soldano but it took me about 6 months to "find" my sound. After a year of hard gigging 2-3 nights a week and recording and adding a Nova system to the effects loop, and an Egnater cabinet with V30s and Eminence speakers, (which is 90% of of ANY amplifier's tone), I have dialed in my sound and it is now the sickest tone I have ever owned in my 35 years of guitar playing. I have friends that come to my house just to play on the sick tone.

A soldano by itself is not that hot. It is a professional workhorse. If you leave it in a stall (your bedroom), then you will NEVER feel its "plow".

Bottom line is, Soldanos are made specifically for touring. The +4 effects loops are for running miles of cords without signal loss and noise gain. The tons of high end tone is for those miles of cords as well, because with every foot of cord, the highs drop.

The midrange tone of a Soldano will cut through any drum cymbals and breaking beer bottles. And how about the QUIETNESS? OMG I can crank it in the studio to 8 with the gain on 8 and NOTHING. NO HUM....NO BUZZ......Nothing but bone crushing power when I hit the strings.

Anyhooo, just had to tooot my horn about this amazing guitar amp.

That is so true once you own one of these bad boys it riuns it for any other amp company's there are out there . Because there is know need to ever buy another amp ever again unless your gonna get another SLO ! Im running 2 Basson 300 watt bottoms loaded with eminence legends and it is really Awsome the tone is really something and they get some serious bottom end out of these cabs. Its a real nice combination. I recommend if you can find these cabs to grab one there out of business now the company close there doors its a shame because there really great . I purchased mine in 2006. And i scored them for 550.00 a piece brand new. And there built like a tank.

When it comes to MV style amps I have to agree.
But if I need a real classic rock vibe that has an instant attack when I strike the strings without compressing the notes , nothing beats an old NMV Marshall hitting the sweet spot through Greenbacks imho .

I agree Soldano has effectively killed my desire for any other amp.

I do dream about touring with my stock SLO-100 paired up with a SLO-100 modified to the Decatone Crunch voicing, but that is it. Maybe some day I will be so lucky. laugh
