ARGH - I am a traitor! I have sold my Hot rod head...... sad

But my reasons are that I just need two channels. I played baout with the HR before I shipped it and it sounds sweet - really nice gain, but I need a dedicated clean channel too.

My plan is to sell my road king and use some of the cash from the HR to buy an SLO. But before I do that, I noticed the luck13 on the soldano web site. It sounds just what I am after - anybody ever played onehuh

I was the same way, but I just bought a second HR-50 and switch between them. Problem with most multi-channels amps, is that they share the eq section. Therefore, the so-called multi-channels are really just added gain stages...which is great if you can deal with sharing the eq section. for me, i like a different eq setting for the overdrive channel, than i do for my clean/crunch channel. most of the reviews i've read about multi-channel amps say that either clean or overdrive is great, but the other is lacking...i feel this has to do with eq sharing. course there are a lot of multi-channel amps that do not share the eq section...so you might want to try checking these out as well.

The Lucky 13 has the SLO overdrive channel and a Fender style clean channel which is cleaner than the HotRod clean channel.
It does not have shared EQ.
Left to right the controls are:
Bright/Normal Switch, Clean Channel:Volume, Bass, Middle, Treble, Reverb (independent per channel).
Drive Channel: Gain, Bass, Middle, Treble, Reverb, Volume
Shared Presence Control.

I have an Astroverb and I am looking forward to the day I have money for the Lucky 13 too! I want that SLO overdrive channel so I can ditch this overdrive pedal I have to use.

Here's what the Soldano tech, Bill Sundt, says:
"The reverb-o-sonic and the astroverb are both based on the 'Normal' channel
circuit of the SLO.
The SLO has a clean/crunch switch for this channel.

The reverb-o-sonic's two channels are basically these two, clean and crunch.

The astroverb is basically the crunch channel.

Neither has the super high gain overdrive circuit.
The HR50+ has the overdrive and the crunch.
All of these respond very well to backing off the guitar volume knob to clean up the sound. The lucky 13 has the soldano overdrive channel and a fender style clean channel."

I've got a Lucky 13, very happy with it. The distortion channel is a just a different beast than the Hot Rod. But I really like it. I also really dig the clean channel. Although, it feels a little too clean to me at times, so I use Clark Gainster on it to spice things up a bit.

Also, switching out the power tubes from 5881s to 6l6s greatly increased my overall satisfaction. I have a quad of Kt66s I'm waiting to put in as well.

I play it through V30s. however, when I was in the studio I was running it through a cab with Greenbacks and 75s. Loved the sound. When I get some money together, I may mix some Greenbacks into my sound.

Glad to see some more joining the L13 club!

The L13 lead sound is significantly lower gain than the SLO or the Hotrods. It falls between the SLO lead and crunch for distortion. The clean is nice and does have separate EQ, plus the reverb is good. It doesn't sound like a Fender, but it's still a nice clean. Be sure and try one before buying to make sure it has enough gain for you.

I tried the L13 a while ago and thought it had terrific crunch and a super clean channel. I have an SLO now and can't really remember the L13 enough to say about the specific differences in the lead tone, but I know I personally liked the L13 lead channel to the HR's.
