angry Astroverb 16 problems
« Thread started on: Mar 7th, 2004, 01:00am »

It's less than 2 weeks old and already breaking down.
2-3 days ago it started making a static or scratchy
like sound. Today it did it for 10 minutes and then stopped. I replaced all the pre amp tubes with no luck.
Tonight it started popping very loudly. I turned the master all the way down and when I touched the
master knob again it popped again. I then turned off power and it made a really nasty popping/distortion
noise that was really loud. I really love this amp but I'm thinking about returning it if it's more than a bad power tube. I emailed Soldano but I probably won'y hear back until next week. I am really bumbed out sad

Sounds like a tube problem.
My amp was making some weird noises after I changed all the preamp tubes. Some 'pops' and a pretty loud hiss, even on low volumes. I just moved the tube from V1 to V3 (or V4) and problem solved. grin

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I hope it works.
I'll post later with the results.

If you've replaced the preamp tubes then the next step is the power tubes- that's got to be the problem.

If there was a 'real' problem (meaning something other than a tube failure) with a new Astroverb I'd have to see it to believe it! It's gotta be the power tubes since they are the only possible weak link in a Soldano.
