Ther difference between the Avenger and the HR50 would be what? just 50 v 100 watts? And the Avenger has built in adjustable depth mod? thats all I could find... They both have hi/low inputs, single channel, SLO overdrive circuit....
They sound VERY much the same... and for 300-400$ less... the HR looks like a more viable option... plus its 50 watt, which I like better: http://www.guitarnuts.com/amps/myths.php

I know they're not exactly the same. I can't describe the difference, though. All I've heard from the Avenger was thanks to TU BE clips.
The Avenger doesn't have an effects loop or a slave out. I does have a depth knob that the HR doesn't. I heard they may offer an EL34 version of the Avenger.
I think the HR is supposed to offer the signature Soldano lead tone from the SLO in an affordable package, while the Avenger is basically the SLO lead channel, tweaked to sound darker and more modern.

When I tried the Avenger, it seemed to be voiced slightly darker than the HRs. I've never played through an SLO so I can't really say...but The HRs are definately brighter amps that have more of an upper-mid kick, while the Avenger has a lower-mid grunt. This may be because of the Depth knob.

I feel like an idiot because I just got the damn thing, but I'm already considering mods for my Hot Rod 100. Not that it sounds bad, but I'd like to add some more lower end thump to it, a la Avenger. Except I don't want to get the XL mod, because I hear it kills the tone. Maybe I can send it to Trace for a custom mod that I can switch on and off...

Or send it to Soldano for the Depth mod and/or the Warren Haynes mod. Also KT66's are a tube upcharge from Soldano when you order one.
