There are white McCartys out there. They did a special run of cu22s and SCs and McCartys. It's just finding them.

I would look into Thorn, McNaught, PWE, Grosh, Suhr, Tyler, Huber, Schroeder, Tom Anderson, etc. long before I modded that. Most of these builders will build what you want, if they don't already have it.

Do you want the PRS scale? Some of the above do 25". Why change frets, pups, paint, bridge, etc. Necks are easy to match. String thru is also something some of the above builders would do. Add up your mods and the original cost and I don't think it's a good value compared to a custom from one of the above.

Check out these:

But if you can get exactly what you want, and want those birds on the neck then it would be worth it for you.

Sweet LP, and even sweet wood. That Carvin will smoke. Post pics when done.

although carvin isn't a 'full custom' manufacturer, they are known to go to great lengths to accomodate their customers. they used to use customer supplied wood regularly, but a couple of years ago, from what i've been told, they stopped because of a bad incident with some customer supplied redwood (why you would want a guitar made of redwood is beyond me). the wood wouldn't carve well with their routing bits and basically 'chipped' away and destroyed the top of the guitar and the customer's hunk of wood. they were shy about it for awhile, but didn't give me any push-back when i asked. i'm also lucky that i'm next to one of the three carvin outlet stores, so i had a salesperson i could talk with face to face, and he dealt with the builders over the phone.

$500.00 for stainless steel frets is WAY too high. Most of my guitars are set up with those frets for much less. Joe Glaser in Nashville did my last Les Paul. He also has a PLEK machine too.

Save some money and time. Order a Tom Anderson Classic, Cobra S, or Drop Top and have it built EXACTLY like you want. The largest PRS dealer in the eastern side of the US is a bud of mine here in Memphis, Martin Music. I've played a ton of his guitars and he is an Anderson dealer too. He's all about PRS, but says the Anderson is finest guitar ever made. For a pure Strat, Tyler is the master builder no doubt.
