|I had Gibson Custom Shop build me a one off Firebird V several years ago. I bought all the parts and sent to my buds there. Great guitar, but just never had the LP growl and I thought it was just too bright for most stuff. I sold it several months later.|
Gibson wasn't even at summer NAMM this year, and not expected to be at winter NAMM next month either. Hey, I'm a Memphian, one factory is here and the other is in Nashville, so I'm a huge fan, but it took about $2,500 in parts/changes etc. as well as 4 Luthiers to bring one new player 05' LP Standard to amazing specs. I have 3 other LP's too from custom shop and USA side, but it is what it is.
Hmm, for half that money, I bought a new 06' Tom Anderson Cobra S in mahogany, 24 3/4" scale, rosewood fretboard. Nothing is made like an Anderson other than a Tyler. My TA records, plays live, and just feels amazing. We are doing "Skynrd" tribute record in the studio right now and I'm using this axe for sure.
Gibson needs to get real, $15k for a Pearly Gates BG Les Paul? Are you kidding me? Robotic tuners, whatever. Jimi, Clapton, and SRV didn't need robotic tuners. I mean come on... enough of the rant. Sorry.
