What guitar are you using for 90's metal?
Post by 05Softail on Jun 11th, 2010, 04:34am

Since Soldano owned those days, and we had so many great shredders sporting SLO stacks, the amp tone is nailed.

Anyone playing that style music and what current production guitars do you like?

Anyone using a Suhr S1-6 or Modern? How about an Anderson? Those are catching my eye lately.

Thx,

Softail

i don't play that stuff religiously, but do have fun with it. i looked at the guitars you mentioned above, but one look at the price tag made my mind up pretty quick! i don't care how 'super' of a strat it is, it's not worth that much to make or set-up, imho. i have a newer ibanez prestige that i play (my only trem guitar) when in need to get 'it' out of my system.

My main guitar is a 1988 Tom Anderson with a floyd basswood body maple top with the old strat head style. and a heavly moded fender strat

I play an original Ibanez RG550 for that stuff. Suhr's are just Ibanez rip-offs....Suhr even uses the Ibanez all-access neck joint on their bolt-ons. The f*cking price is the laughable part. Save your money...no bolt-on guitar is worth over $2,000.00. None.

+1

Some of the best guitars I've ever touched were bolt-ons.

Go play a Blackdroid Hufschmid bolt-on and come back and say the same thing. wink

Oh- I like bolt-ons...just not $2,000.00+ bolt-ons.
I've played several PRS,Andersons,Suhrs, etc. over the years. None of the aforementioned guitars were better (in any way) than an $800.00 Ibanez Prestige. I haven't played every bolt-on solidbody guitar in existence though (I.e.- Blackdroid Hufschmidt.) It all boils down to what the individual player thinks makes "a good guitar." I don't care where a guitar is made and don't give a rat's ass about spalt-top koa guitars with abalone monkey wizards inlayed on the fretboard made by a one-armed man in New Jersey. Many guitarists are duped into buying super high-priced products...."magic" 9V overdrive pedals that cost $300.00, guitars that cost $3,000.00 and amps that cost $5,000.00. It's a huge scam marketed at gullible 40-year-old guys with a surplus of disposable income and little common sense and/or real playing ability.
