Flanger Advice
Post by Heritage80elite on Feb 11th, 2012, 10:27am

Hey guys. My band is covering a few tunes that will require a flanger (Unchained, Live Wire, Spirit of Radio, etc...), and I have narrowed my search to the EH Electric Mistress, MXR M117 Flanger, and MXR M152 Micro Flanger.

Really like the size of the Micro Flanger, but would like to hear opinions from those who have used these three flangers with an SLO.

Thoughts & opinions are greatly appreciated!

bear in mind any time based effect is going to sound better in the loop, and none of the above are line level.

Excellent point, and I really appreciate your comment. I personally don't like the way the SLO sounds with an effect running thru the loop, so I'll definitely be using the flanger in front of the amp.

Flangers sound better in front of the amp .
That's how EVH and many others ran theirs before loops came into play.
Chorus,Delays,Reverb sound best through a loop or after the amp.

From the above suggestions, http://www.hartmanelectronicstore.com/Analog-Flanger_c13.htm is the best one.

I've been through a few but I like the old mxr ones with the ac cable. It sounds real nice in front of the Soldano.

I bought an ADA PBF flanger last month and it really sounds great. I also have an old original ADA flanger and compared them side by side. They sound real close. The new one is much smaller and 9V, easier to use. It does the EVH jet-plane effect perfectly as well as many others tones. I use it in front of the SLO. You can't go wrong with this one IMHO.
