Soldano Lunchbox Amp
Post by auburnshredder on Aug 24th, 2011, 5:55pm

Mesa just announced a micro-rectifier amp today:

How cool would it be to have a multi-power lunchbox Soldano, maybe the "MicroVerb" or "Mini-SLO" smiley

Oh well... a guy can dream

hasn't the 'slo' modded astroverb been discussed before? i think the el84 and different trannys would change the slo mojo too much, but i'd love to hear one!

Closest thing to the SLO is gonna be the 44. Mike just isn't a fan at all with lunch box amps. Needs 3 gain stages for sure to get there, and he didn't like proto when we tried 30 watt trannys so we went for 50 watt trannys.

I didn't see too many at NAMM, I think the idea is fading some.

Even though I know Mike wont design one I'd still love an overdrive only single channel SLO "lunchbox" amp with MIL-SPEC parts. That would be fantastic.

Lunchbox -style, low-wattage amps are definitely equipment "Du jour" these days. I don't really consider the Astroverb in this category, as opposed to the Transatlantic, Class 5, Picovalve, Night Train, HT-5 etc.

I agree it may be difficult to acheive a real "Soldano" sound with some type of (2) ecc83, (1) EL84/34 configuration.

Jet City has a 20 watt head that uses EL84s and has the "SLO circuit" overdrive:

Not exactly a lunchbox amp (but still smaller than the full size Jet City/Soldano amps), but I think $400 for a brand new amp based right off Mike's SLO is pretty damn good for what it is.
