rs guitarworks, anyone?
Post by guccieng on Sep 18th, 2010, 11:32pm

i finally got my rs guitarworks stuff installed. i'm using it on a carvin ct4m with dimarzio 36th anniversary pups and a petrucci switch. it's the custom taper volume pot, cts tone pot (both 500k) and the jenson oil and paper tone capacitor. i'm really impressed. the volume knob is more like gain knob on the SLOs overdrive channel. i was first thinking i burned the cap while soldering because i didn't hear the dramatic difference when turning the tone knob all the down and up. instead, i found it useable! as you turn it down, it seems to taper off the treble, but the mids stay fully present, almost boosted. the last bit of taper gives a wah effect; very vocal. even when it's full down, it's still useable, not like most tone knobs i've used before (i would never play with them all the way down. who does?). as for the volume pot, it's 100% to say, 60% in 80% of the taper, then turns down at the end of the travel. that's good, because it's less sensitive right off full throttle and lets you enjoy all the goodness in that sweet spot. all in all, i'm impressed. anyone else use this stuff?

Good stuff and great guys. I have their pots in my 3 LPs and the relic'd one of them.

I tried their superpots but went back to the regular ones as their taper suits me better. I'm now on the fence if I'm going to shell out the dough to try Allessandro's.

I also have some PIO caps but since discovered Bumblebees. Where the Jensens bring "sizzle" the Bumblebees have none of that (which I like better)

I threw a pair of their bumblebees in a guitar that sounded like it had a head-cold. Problem solved! The overtones and individual note definition opened right up.

Now I have to figure out how to cure that addiction. :~)

Luxe PIO bumblebees and CTS tone and volume pots wired 50's style in my Les Paul R9. I got the aged stuff just because it's the cat's ass. RS kicks, period.
