so, like many of us, even after we have our 'dream amp', we still look at other stuff. amps like dumble, trainwreck, cornford, fuchs, diaz, blah blah blah, i simply don't understand. is/are there any other amp/amps that do something so much better than an SLO? tw's go for $30k, dumble's $50k+. is it all hype? after reading up on these amps (and because it's on the internet i can whole-heartedly believe it to be true rolleyes ), i told my wife that if i won the lottery (that i don't play), i would get a few of these crazy-priced amps. after a day of sanity, i think that's stupid, no matter how much money i have. they simply can't be worth that to a guitar player. can the guy who likes to play guitar in an unimportant cover band even tell the difference?

I think its mostly supply and demand. And its high income collectors driving up the price.

But I'm with you. Its the same reason that I can't ever see myself spending $100k+ on a car even if I had the money.

I would literally have to have money to burn to buy such items.

It's all relative; I'm sure there's lots of guys out there that think you are crazy for spending the money an SLO costs.

Let everyone have his or her fun and be glad the money is spend I say...

I just suprised Cornford got ranked in with Dumble, Trainwreck and Fuchs etc grin

Are they pricey in the states? they're pretty reasonable here, then again, they are made here.

I could have an SLO, and and if it's half as versatile as the HR50+ i'd be happy, and it pretty much is my dream amp, but dream doesn't equate to "Does everything in every application".

Right now i'm looking at matamp, want a micro watt amp (4w) for using at home with different tonality. does that mean i like it better than my Soldy or want it more than an SLO? nopew, just means there an application thats different that can be filled by this brand of amp.

Great amps buy the way, an kind of appropriate to mention given Mike is a fan of early orange amps (early 70's). mainly because there was no Orange brand back then, there was the Matamp Orange amp, Orange being the model. Matamp are still alive and well and making amps non stop since. All handmade turret boarded for ridiculously little money.

If you cant tell the difference between a slo and a dumble/fuchs clone; or even an old Marshall Jmp, then yes, you would be crazy to buy another amp. But if thats the case, then i bet that 90% of the amps out there would sound the same to you. Yes, they are very very different animals. For me its the difference between beef and chicken. Very different but both taste great. All of those amps you listen sound awesome but they are all unique. Frankly, i have never heard anyone coax a convincing dumble sound out of a slo, but that's not why you buy a slo.

It is'nt a question if those other amps can do so much better for the coin , it's a fact that they sound totally different than a Soldano.
Who only uses one amp for all types of music.
A Soldano can't bark like an old school NMV Marshall and neither of those two have the tone of a Dumble.
If a player has the money and wants to spend it on an amp that he thinks sounds better so be it.
It's no different than someone saying to spend $4000+ for a SLO that has a crappy effects loop design is'nt worth it either.
It's all just one persons opinion.
