xx Gibson Firebird X ...wtf?!
« Thread started on: Nov 24th, 2010, 12:14pm »

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Firebird/Gibson-USA/Firebird-X.aspx

I don't know why Gibson is starting to do this to their good name. The Dusk Tiger that had the robotic tuners...okay I guess I can see that as an innovative type thing, but shitting on a guitar like this really makes them look like they're trying to compete with Fender.

I've been a 'bird watcher for a long time and, until recently, owned and played a Firebird VII (I'm guessing "X" is to be "10" and not the letter). I've been rethinking about maybe eventually buying a non-reverse Firebird, because even though its "backwards" compared to the original, its still kinda nice. But this...this monster they call Firebird X is just ugly. No, its fugly! The body is tucked in more from the usual Firebird body shape, the fretboard is entirely the wrong wood/color, and the head...yeah.

Worst of all is this "pack our shit with a ton of electronics" crap. Didn't Fernandez make something to this effect years ago? I dunno, maybe I'm going overboard on my rant but I just can't see why Gibson is doing this. Looks like shit and I have NO desire to play.

I gotta agree, all this money spent on "innovation" that traditional guitar players just don't give a damn about, and that's where most of the sales come from, at least that's what I'd guess. They're trying to reach new heights as a company, and I understand that, but c'mon. They should make the reissue Lester's the standards, no question, and spend money for R&D of guitars that will actually compete with companies that are going strong, like Schecter, PRS, and ESP. I have a R9 and wouldn't trade if for the world. But damn did it cost me big bucks. The USA line should be the historics, and carry the USA line prices.

I had Gibson Custom Shop build me a one off Firebird V several years ago. I bought all the parts and sent to my buds there. Great guitar, but just never had the LP growl and I thought it was just too bright for most stuff. I sold it several months later.

Gibson wasn't even at summer NAMM this year, and not expected to be at winter NAMM next month either. Hey, I'm a Memphian, one factory is here and the other is in Nashville, so I'm a huge fan, but it took about $2,500 in parts/changes etc. as well as 4 Luthiers to bring one new player 05' LP Standard to amazing specs. I have 3 other LP's too from custom shop and USA side, but it is what it is.

Hmm, for half that money, I bought a new 06' Tom Anderson Cobra S in mahogany, 24 3/4" scale, rosewood fretboard. Nothing is made like an Anderson other than a Tyler. My TA records, plays live, and just feels amazing. We are doing "Skynrd" tribute record in the studio right now and I'm using this axe for sure.

Gibson needs to get real, $15k for a Pearly Gates BG Les Paul? Are you kidding me? Robotic tuners, whatever. Jimi, Clapton, and SRV didn't need robotic tuners. I mean come on... enough of the rant. Sorry.

Let me guess- it costs $2,700.00? Gibson will continue to reel in suckers like they always have.

+1 i have much current production/direction gibson dislike going on. when i see what you can get for the same money from other makers it just ridiculous.

for half the money i'd buy a tokai love rocks lessa and probably have have the same or better quality guitar than a "real deal gibson.

i nearly bought one 2 years ago (gibson les paul). that years les pauls (standard and traditional) were looking to be the best quality and priced les pauls for a long while. then the dollar crashed and gibson made it's dealers here hike the prices up 25 - 30% across the board, including 2008 guitars that were already in stock.. just a touch cynical..

The only Firebird I'm interested in are of the Jackson variety. Don't know what Gibson is doing messing with a classic.

I played this guitar at NAMM for 5 minutes and can't possibly think of one single reason why I'd even remotely consider owning this piece of wood. I won't even call it a guitar. It reminded me of the "Family Truckster" in Vacation. lol
