xx Which guitar to keep?
« Thread started on: Apr 9th, 2010, 5:27pm »

Looks like I may have to sell one of my babies and have to decide which one to keep; either a 2007 10 top PRS McCarty Trem w/Brazilian Board or a 1980 Gibson Les Paul Custom w/Shaw pickups. What would you keep or sell if you were in my shoes?

"This thread is worthless without pics." grin

But generally speaking, I do/would suggest...

- Not sell either yet until the market begins to turn up a bit, or atleast not sell at a low price in this down market.
- Sell the one hardest to sell first.
- Sell the least valued one first.
- Sell the guitar I would use the least first.
- Sell the guitar with the least sentimental value first.

I'd suggest keeping whatever felt more sentimental to you. And that includes how long you've had it, how well it plays, the resale value or it, etc.

I'd probably get rid of the PRS. I think they're guitars are far better than Gibson, but that's quite an old model you have there.

Angry, the wilcutts Mcarty's are unusual in that the colours tend to be more modern, they have western big leaf maple 10 tops, old birds, locking tuners and trems. the trems are the big thing as mcarty's as a model only offered them for a while at the beginning of their tenure. the only thing making this a mcarty is the thickness of the mahogany back and the pickups. the pickups suck, i changed mine for BKP's. the bloke from creed played these before the PRS SC's came out. essentially a mcarty trem, with good pickups is a metal/hi gain rock machine. don't let the name and association fool you mate. these are hard to get and full on.

The DGT trem is based on these, and in terms of age, the custom 24 is the oldest production model they have

Call me Dan if you like.

Maybe keep them both, then. hehe

Do you know of Rob Chappers, the Monkey Lord?

Is it the same type of model that he was given in that video?

no worries Dan, simon here mate

right, yeah kinda, control layout is the same, but a mcarty's back is an 8th of an inch thicker and it has 22 frets. i also have BKP's in mine as i dont like mcarty pickups specifically and PRS pickups in general
