Cool project. I have always wanted to compare the "Klon" to the "Clone".

To answer your question, Yes there is a difference (at least in my opinion).

I have owned a Klon (several to be exact) for years and it is by far the best boost I have tried to date. Adds a bit of fatness and sustain without coloring your tone or killing it with mid and high harshness.

Bill Finnegan stopped making the Klon last year. Supposedly he is working on a new Klon that is the same exact pedal just smaller.

I want a Klon. Would love to compare your build to an original.

me too, but i'm not spending $600 to $1200 on an original. the series 2 is supposed to come out soon, right? it should be smaller and cheaper than the big-box original. i'm really not using this right now; it does everthing it's supposed to and does it well, but i just don't have a real need for it right now. it was fun to build, but after the knobs, powdercoat, laser engraving, it almost hit the $200 mark.

Maybe you should just put it up for sale then, and try to at least get your money's worth back?

I too am one of many desiring a Klon, especially since my last band's lead guitarist had one. That pedal teased me from afar - I could look yet not touch - and would love to swoop it up.

My only concern about the supposed new Klon's is their sound. I know he states they're going to be the same kit but in a smaller unit, but I don't buy that quite yet. Companies always use that ploy, even Ibanez with their resissued TS808 doesn't sound the same unless its modded appropriately. So I'm worried that the "new" Klon Centaur will be smaller and shittier/not as warm, much like how my Marshall Guv'Nor 2 and Bluesbreaker 2 aren't quite the same as the originals.

And they too are smaller.

Yeah, it will be this massive debate about the old vs. new. Wish I could try one before dropping the $ they are getting now.

Bill and I talked several years ago about BCM coming on as his 3rd dealer worldwide. With that, he seemed to open up more about the pedal, his business etc. He's a very cool guy, but definitely a techno guy. Never got the dealership as he just didn't want to work harder getting me products.

He explained that gold versus silver is silly except the SILVER'S sound better due to some resistor changes to take a little off the top end. I love my silver one and use it constantly. So, there isn't any truth to the matter that early gold models are the "Cat's meow".

Is the CS3 SLO clone any good, not sure, but I'm also not interested. Mike has the mojo we all know that.

Is the KLON better than the clone, don't know about that either, but since I got mine new years ago for a fraction of the cost of eBayer's today, I don't need to go there either. I would like to hear one though.

Good bud of mine owns "Boiliing Point" pedal and he told me it is only pedal he has ever tried that competes with the KLON. Any of you guys run one? He was supposed to send me one but haven't gotten it yet.

I was about to share my extreme jealousy when I read that as you getting your own Klon, then read your above post to JLB, hah. I'm curious to know how it compares.
